THE OPENING OF RNI 28 FEB 1970

RNI  Radio North Sea International was a very welcome new player in the offshore radio scene in 1970. We all thought that offshore radio was dead in this country after the Marine Offences Bill became law on the 15th August 1967 with the closures of Radio London , Radio City, Radio 270  etc , etc.   A truley remarkable radio station, the most laveshly fitted out broadcasting vessel ever made,a lot  of money was spent on the 186ft long ship before she laid at anchor in International Waters in the North Sea. She was fitted out with 2 short wave 10.5 killowatt transmitters, one 105 killowatt RCA medium wave transmitter and one  1.2 killowatt  fm transmitter. This is the opening transmission of RNI on the 28th February 1970, this includes a transmission before the actual opening of the station, you can hear the transmitters starting up, then a few crackles and weird noises, then follows the RNI theme tune Man Of Action by The Les Reed Orchestra. Plus a full list of all their frequencies and a tribute to Radio London which left the airwaves on 15th August 1967. Also included is a bit of banter between the English and German DJ,s. On board the MEBO 2  were the following DJs, Alan West, Horst  Reiner, Roger Twiggy Day, Andy Archer and Carl Mitchell . A brilliant CD for  Offshore Radio Fans everywhere charting a piece of radio history that has never been repeated. A memory jerker.
